What a powerful piece Bryan. I love the focus on empathy and understanding here. I've noticed that I've also struggled to empathetically execute step 2.

I met a trump supporter who would jump on the end of my sentences and basically say "Yea that's because of [insert conspiracy theory]." They told me that Bill Gates started Covid. The only thing I felt like I could say to that was, "I haven't seen any evidence for that, have you?" What they shared was not evidence. That convo led me to step 3, and realizing that they weren't listening to anything I was saying. They were just twisting my words to validate their own beliefs. I don't know if we're all capable of having a genuine conversation. What are your thoughts to that? I'd love to hear your perspective here.
